Juniors Kickboxing - What Is It? |
|
| From the age of 5 to 13, children can start to learn coordination, balance, self control and the martial art of Kickboxing here at the Academy. It is no surprise that our juniors are winning competitions all over the country when you see the opportunities we give them to develop. Although grading is restricted to a set time and syllabus, we can teach children as much as they are capable of performing. We operate a badge reward scheme featuring 18 different targets (seperate from grading) that encourage children to motivate themselves. There is a monthly competition for those that want to compete, and we regularly attend competitions from local leagues to national level.Fitness is heavily worked on, not in response to the growing concerns of obesity but because we train each child as if they are going to compete. Competing requires strength and stamina that makes it one of the most demanding aerobic forms of fitness around. We don't need to motivate many juniors to spar - they want to. We give them a safe environment with which to learn and understand how to evade, block, punch, kick, throw and breakfall. For those that are apprehensive, we don't push too hard. It's better for them to want to spar than be forced to. But they will want to eventually. The juniors classes are geared towards children and are much more fun than the seniors classes. We play games, make the warm ups competitive, and give them a desire to put in 100%. |
