Semi & Full Contact Kickboxing - Questions |
|
Can I watch before I join?
Although it would be useful for you to see how it works, it is very distracting for beginners to have an audience so we ask people not to watch the classes. However we do offer a free introduction where we will explain exactly what is required, what you will learn, and show you enough basics to step into a class with some degree of knowledge. These introductions are run on Thursdays from 7pm-8pm, but please book because we need to know numbers.
What do I wear? Is there anything I need to bring?
Loose clothes as you will be exercising - the introduction includes a warm up (though not as intense as the classes). A T-shirt and shorts or tracksuit trousers will be fine. Trainers are recommended for the warm-up but the martial art is done bare foot. Bring water because it can be thirsty work, possibly a sweat towel. When you become a member you will get a Kickboxing Gi.
What if everyone is better than me?
No-one will notice. Everyone has their own stage of the syllabus to learn, and the higher the grade the harder it is. We encourage a professional and inviting atmosphere where effort is recognised and rewarded. After seeing so many students learn, the ones who find it hard tend to be the better black belts. Those that are gifted will struggle when things get tricky. Those that have always had to try hard will find the hard path a well understood companion.
Where is it? When are the classes?
Please see the Timetable for details.
Do I have to spar and grade?
You will have to spar, yes. If you do not wish to spar then we suggest you train in the non contact system. Grading is not compulsory so once again, it's up to you. Although we expect discipline, we are not as demanding on how you proceed as some martial arts. You can train when you want, as often as you want, and step back when you want.
Do I sign a contract?
There is no contract and no binding between you and the Academy. We feel that students should train because they want to, not because they are forced to.
Can I change clubs if I move?
You will be welcome at over one hundred other ECKA clubs when you join our association, though they are run independently of Enfield Kickboxing Academy and will have different structures. We have clubs worldwide and students are maintaining there training whilst travelling.
What is the syllabus?
Over 100 techniques involving punching, kicking, blocking, locking and throwing. These techniques will be required to pass gradings. Unrelated to gradings you will learn a variety of other skills inlcuding weapons, and courses by guest instructors on their proven methods.
